Week 1 Power Rankings
Welcome to the first week of the Power Rankings, I will break down each
team every week, the good, the bad, and hopefully the funny. These rankings
will be pre-waiver wire and picks ups for the weeks, I will look at those the
week after they happen.
Contenders
These teams can contend all season long with their current roster,
barring any injuries.
1)
Le’VeonIsSofterThanLexi’sHair (Paul)- After a
solid week, with all three of his running back putting up big games, it looks
like Paul will have a very solid three starting running backs, with the Melvin
Gordon hold out looking like it won’t end any time soon. Not to forget that
Kareem Hunt is still suspended. Paul could move some of this talent and pick up
a top wide receiver to really dominate this league. Deshaun Watson looks like
he will live up to his projections of being the number 2 quarterback behind
Patrick Mahomes.
2)
SaQuads (Patrick) – This might be a biased pick
in some people’s eyes, but I believe that my team is the second best in the
league. I have three starting running backs, not as prolific as Paul and a
couple that could develop into full time starters. This past week, Mike Evans,
who should be better for more than 2.5 points and Cam Newton should also be
better than the 5 points he had. With any luck, Singletary and Guice should
become better as they get more touches. Delanie Walker will not however get 20
points very week and not having a consistent TE could be my downfall.
3)
The Z Man (Tony) – Tony is led by a trio of WRs,
or quadruple with Sammy Watkins now being the WR1 in Kansas City. Not to forget
his very 1-2 punch with his quarterbacks. Dak Prescott and Matt Ryan were both
ranked inside the top 12 QBs in the league. If Devonta Freeman and David
Johnson both have good years and produce consistent points every week, Tony
could have a very solid season.
Playoff Hunt
These teams could contend if they make some good trades or pickups. Also, if a player develops well over the season and steps into bigger roles.
4)
Panther Nation (Nick) – Ranking someone who is
0-1 at fourth is kind of absurd but Nick’s team is really good, and he is
undeserving of the 0-1 record that we currently has. His team put up 109 points
which would have been enough to beat 9 teams in the league. Nick was led by big
games from Derrick Henry and Evan Engram who won’t put up a combined 45.5
points every week. But going forward James Conner and Aaron Jones should be
good for more than the 10 points that they got for Nick.
5)
Husker Mizzou Power (Allen) – This was a
surprising score line for me but looking at the lineup with Marlon Mack and
Josh Jacobs both playing for teams that lost pieces in their passing games, this
might lead to increased loads for both running backs throughout the season. The
scoring might need to come from other places going forward as Allen’s kicker
and defense combined for 20% of his teams total points.
6)
Silver Bullets (David) – Another team with a big
week and no win, David had a big performance from Carson Wentz to lead his
team. His team looks to be well rounded, with little star players but will rely
on players to have big weeks and consistently scoring 10+ points every week.
David had 6 starters with more than 10 points and Nick Chubb being 1.5 points
from making it 7. If his players continue to put on average performances than
David could make some solid moves to get to the top of the standings.
7)
Bugeater Badboy(Frank) – Frank got a big win
over the weekend, however I think he might trade his fantasy football win for a
Nebraska win. Too bad they must wait 4 more years to try to beat their little brothers.
Frank’s team was carried by big performances from his wide receivers, tight end
and kicker. Frank had some curious draft picks of his tight ends but has since
dropped both and picked up rookie tight end Hockenson who had a record setting
performance in his NFL debut.
8)
Tricky Ham (Kyle) – In the lowest scoring week 1
match up Kyle got the win over Ryan, Kyle’s team had a hard time finding the end
zone this weekend. With only Leveon Bell and Russel Wilson finding the end zone.
Those players combined for a total of 40% of Kyle’s points. Kyle also left a
good amount of points on the bench this week from players who might not always
get that many points. We shall see if Kyle can make the right roster decisions to
maximize his points going forward.
9)
The Cones (Jacob) – When I talked to Jacob at
the CU football game, he stated that he has a good feeling that this will be
his year after going 1-13 last year. Jacob was bit unlucky last year losing a
handful of match ups by less than 5 points. However, this year it appears it
still might not be his year. Joe Mixon got injured in the first game of the
season and Big Ben was held to just under 10 points.
Need Some Luck
These guys need big performances every week from people who normally
wouldn’t have a big week to make the playoffs and make a run at the championship.
10)
The Juice is Lose (Hunter) – Talking about big
performances to help propel someone to a win, Hunter almost got just that with 29
points coming from his kicker and defense. Surely this can’t be a good game
plan going forward. They were not two other players on Hunter’s team that
combined for 29 points this week. With Hunter lacking depth at vital positions we
will see if his team can stay in the playoff hunt till, they get a much-needed
boost from AJ Green. Hunters team does have potential for some big weeks with
Aaron Rodgers and Alvin Kamara.
11)
Soviet Sterling (Sterling) – Another pair of
players for a Becvar kid to score most of their points for them. This time
Sterling has Patrick Mahomes and Christian McCaffery score 64% of his teams
points this week. Sterling does have some players that could develop into top
fantasy players, but we will have to wait and see. Matt Breida could be in line
for an increased role going forward and his pair of Buccaneers’ pass catchers
could be in line if Tampa Bay can develop some sort of resemblance of a
football team.
12)
Ryan Speckl - To go with the worst week 1
performance, Ryan also has the worst fantasy name in the league. Putting up 71
points this week, Ryan’s team had a terrible performance and will be looking to
improve in the next couple weeks. Sony Michel should rebound from his 14-yard
rushing game. However, we shall see If he can replace Tyreek Hill, who looks
like he might be out for 4-6 weeks.
"It's a rebuild"
Thanks for the money, better luck next year.
